Emerging research method to benefit CCRCs and others
A continuing care retirement community (CCRC) can spend a lot of money trying to determine what prospective residents really want and need. In a highly competitive marketplace, CCRCs must better understand the reasons why older adults select one retirement community over another. Often, quantitative surveys are conducted to gather such information; however, marketers should wonder if statistics really reveal why people buy.

Eastern Mennonite School pursues 20/20 Vision
Eastern Mennonite School (Harrisonburg, VA) has contracted with Advancement Associates, Inc. (AAI) to conduct a two-phase market research study, 20/20 Vision. AAI Principal Rich Gerig and Associate Mike Wiese are collaborating on the project.

Newsletters perform vital role in advancement
Many organizations realize the importance of presenting advancement as a seamless and coordinated function between various departments. In AAI’s opinion, one person who understands and effectively applies this principle is Andrew Gerber, public relations coordinator at Gateway Woods Apostolic Christian Children’s Home (Leo, IN). Gerber is responsible for compiling Gateway’s newsletter (The Gate Post) and e-newsletter (E-Post) and takes very seriously their roles in supporting Gateway’s overall advancement efforts. AAI Communications Associate Sherilyn Ortman recently visited with Gerber about his philosophy and approach.

Decentralized camping takes center stage at Camp Deerpark
Organizations periodically need to assess how effectively their current programs support their mission. Which drives which? In some cases this reflection takes place in an intentional and structured setting like a weekend visioning retreat. Other times it’s a stirring in the hearts of a few people over a period of time, as in the case of one AAI client preparing to make a radical programmatic change.

Fewer women in leadership roles seen
In some parts of Mennonite Church USA, there are fewer women in leadership than in previous years.
That was the observation of several of the 30 participants of the Mennonite Women USA Strategic Planning Retreat at Amigo Centre March 27-28. Participants urged the organization to speak out for more women in leadership within the church and its agencies.

IMS embarks on mid-year enrollment plan
Iowa Mennonite School, a Mennonite high school in Kalona, IA is facing its enrollment challenges head-on. Leaders at the school have been paying enough attention to demographics and trends to know that, in spite of high rates of student retention and effective recruitment of Mennonite students, they need to be connecting with new student markets.
